Blue-green in tone, the foliage of this low growing cypress turns colors of copper and maroon as the season changes to fall and keeps that shade through winter. New growth in spring appears as bright green, and darkens in shade during summer. Maturing at 1' in height and 4-5' in width, it is a suitable choice for an easy ground cover, and grows best in part sun with moist and well-draining soil. Is adaptable to poorer soil and different sun conditions, but may not reach its maximum potential. Fairly tolerant of pests and diseases and can be propagated by rooted stem cuttings. Will flower as well as fruit, but are largely inconspicuous among the heavy foliage.

​An easy and eye catching groundcover, Santolina virens offers a low maintenance and drought tolerant option for a hot and dry bed, container planting, green roof, or rock garden. This textural chartreuse plant spreads into domed mounds approximately 1-2' tall and 2-4" wide. Small yellow blossoms emerge in summer and seed pods form in early fall appearing as though they are floating cottony clouds on top of the ground cover. Options for companion planting are sedums, flax, dianthus ground covers, and more. Due to its evergreen nature and bright color, it is a great choice for a year round container planting, sidewalk bed, or border along garden or walkway. We like it so much, we planted it in the beds along our nursery fence and try to always have it in stock. A specimen sure to brighten your day!

Fast facts:

• mature plants will be 8-10" tall while flowering stems are approximately 12" tall
• deciduous grass that spreads through clumping or self-seeding

Plant this arthropodium in part to full sun where you seeking to add some extra detail on a smaller scale. Rock gardens are an option, or in mixed beds, but would not recommend for containers or borders due to its deciduous nature. Spreads, but not aggressively, and adds a whimsical texture and a soft color. A relative of lilies, though in different families, the similarity is palpable when white lily-like flowers emerge in June/July. Flowers will continue throughout summer if deadheaded, and black seeds will set in autumn. Cut grass to 1-2" above the ground once it has died back completely. Can be divided at the start of spring. Appreciates some moisture in the soil.

A shop favorite, the Callistemon sieberi 'sugar candy' is a durable evergreen shrub that is a superbly low maintenance choice for the home gardener. It will reward your landscape with beautiful magenta blossoms up to 6" long in spring, and sometimes fall. Loves full sun, can tolerate light shade, and will grow in well, moderate, and poorly draining soils. A true champion of numerous harsh conditions, plant Callistemon in a challenging area of your yard where other specimens may not fair quite as well. Responds well to moderate pruning, tolerates a light frost, and will attract pollinators to your garden. Plant as a hedge or part of a hedge row for privacy, in a container, as a windbreak, or anywhere you like to appreciate the foliage and that habitat this shrub provides.
